Wow, I'm not very good at blogging!

It's been almost 3 months since my last post, oops! I've been so busy with work, brownies, and other stuff!

Last week I gave up one of my jobs though, so should in theory have more time!

I have still been making and listing in odd snatches of time... not that I have much spare!

Here are some of the items I've made recently.. all can be found on Folksy - Here!

A-Team 4th and 5th August!

Really enjoying this listing challenge, it's the first one I've done! By reading the forum posts every day I get to see so many lovely items created by lovely people! For example I love this: http://www.folksy.com/items/686709-Dark-Nights-necklace and am so tempted to buy it!

My items from yesterday and today are both charm bracelets:

Not had any sales for ages though... everyone else in the A-Team seems to be getting loads... I need the sales fairy!!

A-team Days 2 and 3

I forgot to blog yesterday afternoon with yesterdays item! So am doing a double blog today!

Yesterday I added this pretty glass crackle bead charm bracelet:

Today I've just added this interesting swarovski bracelet:

In other news I bought Lego Harry Potter for my pc yesterday... and did in fact spend almost all day playing it... it's great!! (good way to waste my remaining 4 1/2 weeks off work!) I would reccomend it!

Monday 2 August 2010

I'm Back, and joining the A-Team!

Had a very busy few weeks - end of term at work so loads to do, 3 re-enactment shows 3 weekends in a row, planning Brownie pack holiday.. and making lots of jewellery! With all of this I have had no time to blog (or post on Folksy!)

But now I'm into the 2nd week of my summer holidays I now have time! And because I have made lots of jewellery I haven't listed yet I decided to join in the August listing challenge on Folksy - A Team!

I hope to list an item a day throughout the month of August, with the exception of the 5 days I'm away on Brownie Pack holiday though.

So here is yesterdays:

Will post a picture and link to todays item later!

Monday 5 July 2010

Wow!

I'm pretty impressed with myself - I made £65 tonight on my jewellery stall at a Pamper evening, and took 2 custom orders! :D

Very pleased!

First Stall!

I haven't blogged for a couple of weeks because I have been so busy making things... because tonight I'll be running my first stall at a fundraising pamper evening!

I'm a little excited, but mostly nervous!

I have a table cloth, 2 notice boards covered in fabric to pin things on, I have made little cards with my name and web address for my earrings, I have made loads more jewellery, I have bought things like a receipt book and price tags... I think I am almost ready, but am a bit stressed, as it's the first time I've done anything like this, and am sure I will have forgotten something!

Will post some pictures and some feedback later on!!

If anyone is in or near Basingstoke and fancies coming along, it's at the Play Council office at Winklebury Community Centre (just off Winklebury Way) from 7:30 onwards tonight, and will cost £3 to get in, which includes a drink and nibbles! There's going to be jewellery, handmade cards, massage, reiki, candles, and much more!

:)

Gemstones and Green Day!

Today I've been playing with a bag of mixed Gemstones I picked up last week.

I've made 2 items - this cute bracelet:

Find it on Folksy here: Folksy Link or on Facebook here: Facebook Link

And these sparkly earrings:

Here on Folksy: Folksy Link or on Facebook here: Facebook link

Also - Green Day on Saturday were amazing... It was the best Gig I've ever been to, and I'm still buzzing now!!
Photos taken on my phone, so not amazing quality!

Features, Weddings, Brownies and Green Day! (Excuses why I've not been blogging or crafting!)

I was featured in a blog yesterday! See it here: theglassmountain Very chuffed as never been featured in a Folksy Friday before! The item featured sold to one of my friends earlier this week though...

Sorry I've not been around recently - been very busy with various things! Last weekend I was away - 2 of my friends got married - they had a beautiful pagan handfasting, and the celebrations lasted all weekend, it was lovely, and I was still on a bit of a high from it all week!
The happy Couple :)

Also this week I was very busy organising a 100 Cake Sale with my Brownies - because its the Guiding Centenary year one of the challenges we have to complete involves having 100 of something - we chose to make and sell 100 cakes, but in the end we had loads more, it was great!

And the rest of the week has been really busy with work, ended up working lots of extra hours!

So there has been no time for Crafting...

And there won't be much happening today either, as I'm off to London to see Green Day this afternoon :D

Even more silver

Really pleased with my progress on my silver course tonight :)

I finished the earrings I was making - went for a hammered texture all over in the end, and finished them off with a purple swarovski bead. I'm really happy with them, and cant wait to wear them!

I also got a bit further with the ring - I've textured it and shaped it.. all it needs now is soldering and filing/sanding :)

Now I need to think of 1 more smallish project to fill about 3 hours (only got 2 sessions left, and will be finishing my ring for part of 1)... anyone have any ideas?

Google Analytics, and help getting more views/sales!

I got around to signing up for Google Analytics, so hopefully should be able to find out more about how much my shop gets viewed on Folksy! I need to come up with more ways of advertising my shop, as I don't seem to get many views per item... I have this blog, I have a facebook page, and I chat in the forums on Folksy. I have business cards, but haven't given many out yet, only to people who have already bought things!

I need more ideas, anyone got any?

I can't join a listing every day thing like June Loons, as I don't have time to craft every day, so wouldn't manage it!

In the last 3 months since I started this tiny business, I have sold 37 items to friends and family, and only 3 items to people on Folksy... how do I improve on this?

Any thoughts or ideas welcome!

Earrings!!

Yesterdays theme seemed to be Seed Beads, todays theme appears to be earrings! I've made 4 pairs of earrings today, and am quite pleased with them :)

All can be found on Folksy or in my Facebook shop!

Seed beads!

Spent some time playing around with seed beads yesterday, and made 2 new bracelets. Seed beads are fun, but rather fiddly! I need more colours of them!

Quite pleased with both!

Other Items featuring seed beads include:

All of these can be found in my Folksy shop or my Facebook page

More silver!

So this week on my course I finished the pendant I was working on:

It's got a few scratches that I need to work off, but other than that am pretty pleased with it - seeing as it's my first attempt at working in silver!

So then I started thinking about what I was going to do next. I had a few scraps of silver left from the pendant, so thought I'd play. I cut out some squares to make some earrings with:

And then used a scrap of copper to play with some textures:

I have since decided that I am going to go for a simple hammered finish, and add some beads.

I also cut out a band to make a ring:
I will add texture to this and turn it into a ring :)

Loving this course!

Facebook Store!

I've finally added a Payvment Facebook store to my facebook page! Any feedback relating to it would be welcome :)

It can be found by clicking on the "shop now" tab here: Link

In other news, I haven't done much in the way of crafting in the last week or so, because I've been very busy, and the weather was so nice last weekend I spent most of my time outside! However I now have a week off work (half term, yay!) so should hopefully manage to get some more jewellery made this week!

:)

Wow!

4 sales in one day! That's my new record! (Admittedly it's only to 2 different people - 1 person bought 3 items, still chuffed though!)

One of the items that's just sold is the charm bracelet I made last night, these people are quick off the mark :)

Off to bed happy now! :)

Pearls, pearls, pearls!

Been making yet another bracelet using the lovely pearl beads I got a few weeks ago... pleased with this one too :)

Find it here :)

Yesterday I got a bit carried away on ebay, and ordered lots of new beads and charms... am ever so excited about recieving them, hope they come tomorrow!! Look out for more makes soon!

Late night jewellery making!

I've just finished making a new bracelet - it's rather late for me to be working, I should be in bed by now.. but the idea came to me and I got carried away! So here it is:

I'm rather pleased with it! :)

Pearl beads

I got some gorgeous pearl beads a while ago, a big mixture of colours, but mostly pinks, purples and berry colours. I hadn't really known what to do with them, I just bought them because they were pretty!

I've finally made something with them this morning - a memory wire bracelet.

It can be found here!

Also this morning I discovered that I could change my facebook link.. it is now http://www.facebook.com/Sarahs.Jewellery

Silversmithing Course

I've just got back from my 3rd lesson on my silversmithing course, and thought I'd share what I've been doing and learning! Unfortunately I wasn't clever enough to take any photos after the first week, but have pictures from the 2nd week.

Basically I am making a domed silver pendant, with a shape cut out. The first week all I did was cut out my circle, using a saw.. the rest of the lesson was about health and safety etc!

The 2nd week I cut my star shape out of the silver, filed it, domed it, and drilled a hole. Much more productive!

This is how it looked at the end of the 2nd week!

Then tonight was all about soldering. First I roughly cut the shape of the back. Then I put various chemicals on the 2 pieces of silver, and arranged my pieces of solder. Then we got out the blow torches! Given how accident prone I am, if anyone there really knew me they probably shouldn't have let me use one (just this morning I managed to staple my thumb!), but I did use one, and had no major dramas! So I managed to solder my 2 pieces together without causing any catastrophes, which is pretty impressive! Then after it spent half an hour in the pickle (to clean it) I sawed and filed the back piece to meet the front, and then drilled a hole through for the jump ring.

It needs a lot of polishing still, but you can see it now has a back!

While it was in the pickle I had a play with balling some wire, which was fun! Basically you hold the wire vertically in some tweezers, and torch the bottom of it, and when it's hot enough it sort of melts upwards, forming a ball on the end of the wire! I'm not using it in my final design, but lots of the other ladies on my course are, and I thought I might as well have a go.. it was quite exciting!

So hopefully next week I'll finish my pendant, get it all polished up and onto a chain, and then onto something new!

Banners, Avatars and Facebook!

It's been a productive evening!

Busy evening!

Comments on the new banner much appreciated :)

New shop name chosen - Sarah's Designs

I decided to go for simple in the end - Sarah's Designs.

My Folksy shop is now called Sarah's Designs, but still seems to follow the Aranelwen link, not sure whether that will change or be like that forever? Ah well!

:)

Monday 10 May 2010

Shop Name - your help please!

Ok, so I've had a few good suggestions for shop names, my favourites being:

Beadelicious
(But when I googled this I found several shops with the same name, so not sure if that causes a problem)

Designed by Sarah

Sarah's Designs

Beads, Buttons and more!
Now I have the challenge of choosing one! So I would like feedback as to which seems the best, plus any other ideas if anyone can think of anything better! (If I use your suggestion you win a half price piece of jewellery from my folksy shop!)

Shop Name

So I am looking for a good name for my Folksy shop.. at the moment it is simply "Aranelwen", which is boring and doesn't reflect what I do... so, am looking for ideas from anyone! There will be a discounted piece of jewellery for the person who suggests the best name!

:)
